    Choir Viva Voce

    Founded 1996

    (Youths and adults aged 17-30)

Viva Voce is a mixed choir founded in 1996 by its leader Margarita McCarthy and consists of around 30 members, mostly students of the Munich Ludwig Maximilian University, college grade students and young professionals.

The choir interprets not only sacred works but also world music from all epochs and styles of European culture, from Gregorian chorals and vocal polyphony through to classical works of choir literature up to traditional folk songs and works of contemporary composers.

Audio samples:

Orbán György MP3 Mundi renovatio
Rachmaninov Sergei MP3 Bogorodize dewo, radujsja
Twardowski Romuald MP3 Alleluja
Moore James MP3 An Irish blessing

For 10 years, Margarita McCarthy has taught the vocal studies classes from which has come the greatest portion of the choir members. As a result , the choir is also able to perform as an independent male or female choir as well as solo ensembles forming in various combinations.

In spring 2002 during the preparation for the Fasching ( Mardi Gras) concert of the Städtische Sing- und Musikschule ( City of Munich Sing and Music School), a male vocal ensemble was formed which enchanted the public with interpretations of songs made famous by the "Comedian Harmonists". So has Munich’s youngest vocal ensemble "Die Nostalphoniker"grown from the Viva Voce choir.

The outstanding musical competence and demanding high quality of the choir continually sets new challenges for the young singers.

The concert life of “Viva Voce” is, with 6-8 performances per year, very actively conceived.

The motto of the choir leader „Music unites Nations” has marked the development of the choir over the 11 years of its existence. To this theme belongs the international concert tour to Minsk, Belarus (2000) and the exchange visit of Chamber Orchestra “Sonante” of the Minsk University (2001). This project was greeted and financially supported by the Deutschen Musikrat (German Music Council) as an occasion for making and enjoying the acquaintance of these people, their mentality and hospitality, establishing friendships and with that to make a small contribution to German-Belarus understanding as part of the important goal of world peace.

For the 10 year anniversary of the choir, a concert tour to St. Petersburg, Russia took place from16.04 to 23.04.2006.

The choir is a member of the "Arbeitskreis für Musik in der Jugend" (AMJ) and in the international Federation of Choral Music (IFCM).
