Margarita McCarthy (neé Macarasvilli) was born at Minsk on 09 March 1959, where from 1977 to 1987 she studied at the Glinka Conservatory to obtain her national music teaching degree with further study at the Belarus State Music Academy where she was awarded the Diploma (with distinction) in vocal studies, piano and choir conducting. She studied choir classes and conducting under Professor Viktor Rowdo. From 1983 she worked with the academic student choir of Minsk University, of which she took over the leadership from 1985 to 1993. With the University choir, she took part in various festivals and choral championships, winning numerous prizes. Foreign tours brought the choir to Russia, Poland, Denmark, Germany and the Baltic states. Furthermore Margarita McCarthy was deputy conductor of the professional choir "State Chamber Choir Minsk". Since 1993 she has been living in Munich. She teaches the subjects "Musical Foundations", "Singing" and "Piano" at the Städtischen Sing- und Musikschule as well as conducting the three choirs she has founded, "Viva Voce", "Viva Vocina" and "Viva Vocinella". Her particular interest lies with the children’s and youth voices, which through joy with singing and a fundamental voice training advances their music.
